Effective September 24, 2026
Book Club is a personal book-journaling app. Your books, ratings, reviews, notes, quotes, journal titles, and cover images are stored only in an on-device database (Apple's Core Data) and never leave your device, uploaded to us, or shared with anyone else. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics, and no crash-reporting software in the app.
Everything you enter in Book Club — book titles and authors, star ratings, reviews, notes and quotes, journal ("book club") titles, and custom cover art you draw or choose — is saved locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. We do not operate a server that receives or stores this content, and we cannot see it.
Book Club also saves two display preferences (your chosen app title and font) locally using Apple's UserDefaults storage, so the app remembers them between sessions. This information never leaves your device.
When you use the "Search Books" feature to look up a book by title or author, Book Club sends the text you typed to two public, third-party book-lookup services so it can show you matching covers and details to choose from:
These requests do not include your name, an account identifier, or any other personal information — only the text you typed into the search fields, sent over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Book Club does not create an account or persistent identifier with either service, and does not use this search activity for advertising or tracking. If you choose a photo from your photo library to use as a custom cover, that photo is processed and stored only on your device — it is never uploaded anywhere.
Book Club does not integrate any analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. The only outside services it talks to are the Google Books API and Open Library cover images described above, used solely to help you find and illustrate the books you add to your journal.
Because all of your book data stays on your device, you are always in control of it. You can delete individual books or entire journals at any time from within the app, or remove all data at once by deleting the Book Club app from your device.
Book Club does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it has no accounts and stores all content locally on the user's own device.
If a future version of Book Club changes what data is collected or how it's used, we will update this page and the "Effective" date above before that version is released.
